Piddock

Brian Piddock

by Anthony Connolly

This is a drawing of me by young Anthony Connolly. Neil Rhodes is someone from college I hadn’t seen for ages until I bumped into him at our old mate Jim’s funeral recently, and he happened to mention he was in publishing, and I happened to mention I’d got this book, and one thing led to another, and – call me sentimental if you want – that’s why I chose the present publisher above all the others to publish my present book.
Neil did say he had a brother-in-law who was a bit of an artist, and I’m happy to give a lad a helping hand, especially since he seemed personable enough, despite the nose piercing and spiky gelled hair.

About me

I've seen it all in my lifetime’s writing career. I've seen scum of the earth agents not interested in my brilliant, earthy, and yet humorous early novels. I've seen ill-mannered ill-bred ignorant theatre directors use my play scripts as door stoppers. I've seen bastard publishers who are not fit to wash my feet ignore my potentially award-winning manuscripts.
Yet I still remain good-humoured about it all.

A Message from my Publishers

Recently Brian Piddock became famous for all the wrong reasons (and he still insists he was entirely innocent of any wrongdoing, and certainly didn’t start that fire. In fact, he claims he could himself easily have been killed in the ensuing inferno. Or scorched quite badly, anyway).
But this book isn’t about Brian. His notoriety wasn’t the reason we at Neil Rhodes Books decided to publish How to Write a How to Write Book. It’s definitely not an attempt to cash in on his name. No. After all, How to Write a How to Write Book is an extremely useful and instructive book.
In fact as soon as publisher Neil Rhodes received Brian’s manuscript he knew he had finally found the book that would redefine the publishing world. It’s the book that will tell all you less-than-successful authors where you went wrong. No longer need you try and sell your novel or play or memoir–and be rejected again and again. Now you can write your own How to Write book–and at last success will be yours.
So forget about Brian’s unfortunate court case, and the sentence, and the lurid tabloid headlines. Just enjoy and learn from this definitive book.
